Eva Radke, a 15-year veteran of the film and commercial productions, founded FBR in May of 2008. Radke saw first hand, the enormous and unconscionable amount of waste generated by the film, tv, commercial and print advertising business. Unable to just sit back and be a passive contributor to the waste stream, Radke turned this environmental problem into an opportunity to transform the entertainment community.
January 2007
Art Cube, a google group, was formed to help the Art Department communicate instantly with one another and collaborate. Since then 504 members hear from their peers about set sales, help each other with obscure props, seek crew, and exchange materials. “Listening” to the group made it clear that even with constant communication, more needed to be done.
May 2008
Film Biz Recycling officially formed. Web site built and a relationship with Build it Green (bignyc.org) was formed to accept donations at their warehouse in Astoria. The announcement was made on Art Cube once.
June 2008
4 commercials, 2 feature films and 1 TV show donate over 7 tons of materials with a retail value over $30,000. The items are sorted, much donated and the items for the prop house items are stored
March 2009
Film Biz Recycling gets it’s own place. Volunteers from the Made in New York PA program fill a 32’ truck with all the stored prop house items to the new location.
