Founder and President
Eva Radke received a BFA with a concentration in film theory from the University of Texas in 1993 and has lived in New York City since 1994. She worked in the film and commercial production business for 15 years – the last 10 concentrating on the art department in most categories – designer, scenic artist, set decorator and chiefly art department coordinator extraordinaire.
In January of 2007, Eva struck a set with $5,000 dollars worth of mint plants, 2 boxes of unopened set paper, unused Plexiglas and an entire set of lumber to just “make go away” – all in the name of toothpaste.
Refusing to throw her work and these materials in a dumpster, she started and online Google group, ArtCube, and invited all her associates to join, connect and share resources. The items were posted and a few hours later all but a few plants were happily claimed. The seeds of Film Biz Recycling were sown. ArtCube now boasts over 600 members of New York’s best and brightest art department professionals who benefit an open-source forum and e-collaboration.
In May of 2008, Eva founded the not-for-profit Film Biz Recycling and since then has diverted over 122 tons from over 125 productions of unwanted building materials, set dressing and wardrobe from an uncertain fate – most likely a landfill. About 80% of the items received get re-routed to other non-profits, charities, arts programs and re-use centers. The top 2% fund the mission as rentals and purchases back to the industry that discarded them in the first place. She is an active member of the National Reuse Alliance and The NYC Materials Exchange Development Program.
She has spoken on panel discussions for PGA Green, The Asian American International Film Festival and South by Southwest. Film Biz Recycling has been featured in the New York Times, Time Out New York and Ready Made Magazine.
She is the mother of one and lives with her family in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
