What you’ll get from this class:
About the instructor:
Stephanie Huffaker has been working with recycled/upcycled/repurposed materials with an emphasis on disposable plastics since 2006. Four years ago she started a design project called Garbage of Eden NYC, through which she has taught recycled crafting workshops at the Brooklyn Creative League, La Guardia Community College, various Queens Library locations and Brooklyn Skillshare among others.
Her work has been sold in environmentally-conscious boutiques and gift shops worldwide, with mentions on the fashion segement of TAFF (a popular German TV program), the Q Note, Girlie Girl Army, White Apricot, Haute Nature, Crafting a Greener World and other blogs and newspapers.
Stephanie hopes that through her designs and workshops she can inspire people to think differently about the way we value and use the objects around us, and how this affects the environment.
BBQ Films – a cinema social club hosting mainstream & indie films pop-up style around the city - is going into the Labyrinth into to find Toby with Jim Henson and David Bowie’s 1986 classic. We don’t think there is any better place to host this than the labyrinthine Film Biz Recycling – so, we’ll be showing this flick among all of their recycled sets and one-of-a-kind resale items. Our beverages will be crafted by the masterminds behind Billingsgate Brewing, who will be bringing four Labyrinth inspired beers to get lost in. By now, many of you are now asking for the amazing creativity coming out of Red Clog Kitchen by name, and you will be amazed by her menu of munchies, to be announced. And, if you’re not convinced yet, just wait for the intermission.

Over the last ten years, Bewley has appeared as his alter ego, Dale Seever in venues across the country including the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; and various small clubs and cabaret settings in Minneapolis, Chicago, and St. Louis. Since moving to New York he has been featured in comedy nights at Housingworks, KGB Bar, Brooklyn Lyceum, and Dixon Place. Bewley is a co-creator of the award-winning online comedy shorts Strindberg and Helium, for which he provides the depressing baritone of August Strindberg. Stop by Film Biz Recycling 2 -5pm Sunday, April 8th for an Eco-Easter event! Join local artist/educator Kat Roberts for a DIY Craft Workshop (ages 5+); the whole family will have fun on a Scavenger Hunt throughout FBR’s wonderland of reclaimed film detritus. While you’re on the hunt, make sure to keep an eye out for hidden Easter eggs filled with discounts and prizes. And the best part? It’s FREE!
FBR will be a featured vendor in the ISES NYC Sustainability Summit at the Rubin Museum. This event is geared towards providing members of the event industry in NYC with sustainable alternatives for a typically wasteful industry. Awesome!
