FBR on the set of NOAH

in Blog, Green Set, News / by admin

Rock and Wrap It Up! is a nonprofit organization that recovers prepared but untouched meals from rock concerts, sporting events, schools & productions then delivers them to local food banks and charitable agencies.  You may remember Rock and Wrap It Up! from FBR’s Eco-Expo 2012.  To capture food waste during production, Rock and Wrap It Up! often places a standing freezer unit on set; when the freezer fills up, Rock and Wrap It Up! representatives serve the needs of the hungry through leftover food pick up and sharing.

Recently, FBR sponsored Rock and Wrap It Up!’s freezer used on the set of Noah, an upcoming feature starring Russell Crowe, Darren Aronofsky-directed.  We’re thrilled at the opportunity to impact food waste diversion on set and partner with an all-around awesome humanitarian, green organization.

Earth Day was a whirlwind at Film Biz Recycling!  We were invited to exhibit at PepCom’s Eco Focus Press Event where over 250 of the nation’s press elite were perusing what’s new on the sustainability scene.  We want to say thank you to the folks at PepCom for their generosity in offering us an exhibition space free of charge; as a nonprofit it’s so rewarding to have our work recognized as important and valuable, we really appreciate this opportunity to get the word out.  At Film Biz Recycling, every day is Earth Day and our sustainability pledge extends to include promotional materials too; we stashed our FBR handouts (printed on recycled paper, of course) in donated evidence bags!  Zero waste!  FBR also exhibited at ABC Disney’s internal Earth Day Fair, talking to employees about the importance and effect of greening production.  We’re so happy to be out there educating the industry on the many ways to be eco-conscious and make a difference where it counts.

On January 24th, FBR hosted Cycle 25 of the “Made in NY” Production Assistant Training Program!  ”Made in NY” was developed in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Film, Television and Theatre and Brooklyn Workforce Innovations.  The program aims “to provide individuals from diverse communities with training for entry-level positions in film production and access to employers in New York City’s production industry, and to teach production assistants how to work collaboratively with local communities when they shoot on location throughout the five boroughs.”  In the past 6 years, “Made in NY” has graduated over 325 students with a job placement rate of 98%; 2 years after graduation, 70% of graduates continue to work in myriad aspects of the production industry.  Collectively, graduates have put their skills to good use and earned $6 million since in the programs’ inception.  ”Made in NY” is doing great work and we appreciate their dedication to educating the future of production.  When Cycle 25 came to visit FBR, our Founder and President Eva Radke shared some great insight with students about the resources FBR provides, keeping  productions green and finding ways to reuse.  We had a great time and we hope you guys did too…thanks so much for the touching thank you notes – you guys are awesome!  Hope to see you again soon!
